1:1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
To take account of the changing needs of school, the Governors and Head teacher of Clifford All Saints C of E Primary School are looking to make a temporary appointment a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant. We are seeking a skilled 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a pupil in Year 3 who has a diagnosis of Down’s Syndrome. This position will focus on the support of a child in lower Key Stage 2 as part of meeting the requirements of an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).
We are a small, caring Faith school seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and caring Learning Support Assistant with a "can-do" attitude who is committed to raising standards for those they work with. You will need to have an ability to work flexibly and with enthusiasm. You will work in partnership with the class teacher and the SENDCo, to support learning in line with the National Curriculum, SEND Code of Practice, school policies and procedures.
Contract type: Fixed term to 31st August 2025 – with potential to be extended based on funding
Working pattern: Monday to Friday 12:00 - 3:15
Working hours: 16.25 hours per week/39 weeks per year (term time)
You will be responsible for the more therapeutic elements of the child’s provision, which will involve supporting them through direct instruction and play-based approaches to:
• Lengthen attention and engagement times
• Develop speech and language skills to support communication
• Label emotions
• Use music and songs and dance to develop body awareness, balance and gross motor skills
• Develop and manage independent self-care
An understanding of SEND and a firm but nurturing approach will be integral to the role. The ability to work as part of a team is essential. The post is for afternoons 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) – 12:00am to 3.15pm. This post will be a fixed term contract ending 31st August 2025.
The successful candidate should have the following:
• Experience of supporting children in a school setting
• Experience of working with children with additional needs
• Strong behaviour management skills
• Knowledge of successful strategies to engage pupils with specific and significant needs
• Able to demonstrate patience, calmness and flexibility at all times
• A commitment to high achievement from pupils and themselves
• Excellent organisation and inter-personal skills
• Good standard of education: Maths and English GCSE grades A-C or equivalent
• Flexibility and a good sense of humour
• The ability to use their own initiative
• Willing to undertake training and support individual needs
